Our Annual Visit To Kona
May 27 - June 2, 2025
This year we decided
to come over
at the start of summer
rather than the end,
since we are
unable to stay in Lahaina
as in previous years.
We were glad to see that Sam
is still floating around the
neighborhood.
Kathleen enjoying one of the
deadly Mai Tai's
at the Kona Inn.
I wonder who is hiding
behind the menu at Oceans?
Oh, it's Bill
One of the locals nude sun bathing!
We visited another
coffee farm in the area.
The tour in this case focused on the growing
of
the coffee beans as opposed
to our other tours which focused
on the
processing of the beans
to make coffee.
A great view of the front portion of the farm
This
little critter followed the group during
the entire tour to make sure
everyone behaved.
We decided
to visit
Kalahuipua'a Historic Park.
We wanted to do this last trip,
but Bill got his wires crossed
and thought the park was south of town
rather than north.
The park is known for it's ancient
lava tube shelters
shown above
and petroglyphs, shown below.
It is also known for it's fish
ponds,
also shown below.
Kathleen
scoping out one of the ponds.
And another one.
This guy
looks mean!
Normally, we
see multiple cruise ships
during our visits to Kona.
There is the old
standby, the Pride of America,
that goes around the islands
and comes
into Kona on Wednesdays.
But this time, no ship came in on Wednesday.
Instead, another Norwegian cruse ship,
the Norwegian Sun came in on
Sunday.
This ship originated from Papeete and
was on a positioning
cruise to ultimately
end up in Vancouver, Canada.
Here it will be used for
cruises to Alaska
for the season.
Meanwhile the Pride of America was
undergoing refurbishment
in Portland
between May 3 and May 31st.
And once again on this trip, we see both ends
of a rainbow in Kona,
with
a pot of gold
in the bottom of the ocean at each end!
Aloha!
